× A Community Organized Event - Presented by Navrasa Theatre Arts

Set against the turbulent backdrop of early 20th-century Canada, Mewa is a powerful Punjabi-language stage play that brings to life the story of Mewa Singh—a Sikh immigrant caught in the crossfire of racism, resistance, and belonging. From lumber mills to gurdwaras, from immigration raids to protest marches, the play explores a little-known chapter of Canadian history through the eyes of the marginalized.

With poetic storytelling, sharp satire, and raw emotional truth, Mewa journeys through the struggle of Sikh immigrants as they fight for dignity in a land that sees them as outsiders. Inspired by true events, including the Komagata Maru tragedy and the assassination of immigration officer William Hopkinson, this timely and urgent piece resonates deeply in today’s conversations around race, identity, and justice.
